The 29-year-old, who missed the weekend win over Andorra with a back complaint, was able to take part in the entire session and is now pushing to start.

It is understood that the Manchester United defender suffered no immediate reaction following the session.

Cole: We must defend well

England winger Joe Cole admitted Fabio Capello's side will put the emphasis on defence in Wednesday's World Cup qualifier with Croatia in Zagreb.

The last match in the Croatian capital saw England lose 2-0 and Cole revealed Capello intends to make his team "harder to break down".

Cole said: "We have to play with a passion like England should do but not be naive and throw players forward."

No fear for Walcott

Theo Walcott insists he goes into England's World Cup qualifier against Croatia with no fear and will relish the pressure in Zagreb if selected.

Captain John Terry spoke of a "fear factor" among the squad before Saturday's scrappy win over Andorra.

But Walcott said: "A lot of young players have no fear. The main thing is to concentrate on your own performance and you're fine with pressure."

Capello ready for test

Fabio Capello admits he relishes the "bigger challenges" as England prepare to take on Croatia in Zagreb.

England claimed an unimpressive 2-0 win over minnows Andorra on Saturday in their first World Cup qualifier.

Capello said: "Wednesday will be a difficult game but more exciting. I prefer the difficult games. Saturday against Andorra was a very dangerous game but I like the bigger challenges."

Bilic dismisses England

Croatia boss Slaven Bilic has dismissed England as "predictable" and insisted he "expects" his side to win their World Cup qualifying group.

The countries meet in Zagreb on Wednesday with England looking for revenge after two defeats by Croatia.

Bilic told the Sun: "England can't play good football because they play predictable football. If anyone should be worried, it's England."

Superb Murray into final

Andy Murray held off Rafael Nadal's fightback on the resumption of his rain-delayed match to claim an amazing win and reach his first Slam final.

The Scot carried over a two-set lead from Saturday but Nadal had a break and held on to take the third set 6-4.

Murray wasted seven break chances in the fourth and was then broken but he fought back impressively to claim the set and a 6-2 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 6-4 win.

She said: "I had a dream about it, but I only came second. I can't believe it. I just got my head into it, got my last bit of energy and just went for it."

Roberts bags another gold

David Roberts has claimed Great Britain's third Paralympic swimming gold medal inside the Water Cube.

The 28-year-old from Pontypridd broke his own Paralympic record set in the heats with a time of 1min 0.35sec in the men's S7 100m freestyle event.

Joining Roberts on the podium was fellow Briton Matt Walker in third, while Heather Fredriksen won silver in the women's S8 100m freestyle.
