Simmonds's silver dream

A tearful Eleanor Simmonds revealed she had dreamed of winning a Paralympic medal on Sunday night - but not the gold she eventually claimed.

The 13-year-old produced a stirring finish to open up a half-a-second gap over Holland's Mirjam de Koning-Peper.

She said: "I had a dream about it, but I only came second. I can't believe it. I just got my head into it, got my last bit of energy and just went for it."

Roberts bags another gold

David Roberts has claimed Great Britain's third Paralympic swimming gold medal inside the Water Cube.

The 28-year-old from Pontypridd broke his own Paralympic record set in the heats with a time of 1min 0.35sec in the men's S7 100m freestyle event.

Joining Roberts on the podium was fellow Briton Matt Walker in third, while Heather Fredriksen won silver in the women's S8 100m freestyle.

Disappointment for Storey

Sarah Storey could not add to Team GB's medal haul in the women's LC1-2/CP4 500m time trial.

The five-time Paralympian, a former swimming star, could only manage fifth as American Jennifer Schuble took gold in a world record time of 40.278sec.

Felicity Coulthard finished sixth in the equestrian individual test while Hollie Arnold was 11th in the F42-46 women's javelin final.

Martin and Woods miss out

Great Britain's Chris Martin was edged out of the gold medal spot in the F33/34/52 discus despite a paralympic record throw of 28.37m.

Factoring in the level of disability meant Latvian Aigars Apinis's 20.47m earned 1,097 points, 24 ahead of the 36-year-old from Mansfield.

Shelly Woods was also second in the T54 5,000m, just 0.26sec behind Diane Roy of Canada, who set a paralympic record.

Weir seeks nap hand

Surrey's wheelchair racer David Weir remains on course for five gold medals.

Weir free-wheeled for the last 50m of his T54 heat to qualify second fastest for the semi-finals and clocked a season's best of 10min 21.27sec in qualifying for Thursday's 5,000m final.

Formula One used to be a great sport assisted by rules - not, as it is today, destroyed by rules. Kimi forced Lewis off with a racing move which did not deserve to be punished. Lewis obeyed the rules and let him back in front then, with a brilliant racing move, overtook him and for this was severely punished. The stewards were correct to penalise Hamilton. If the chicane Hamilton cut had been a gravel trap, Hamilton would not have cut it. Had he not cut the chicane, he would not have been in Raikkonen's slip-stream at the end of the straight, and therefore would not have passed him.

Well done to the stewards in Belgium for a correct call. Kimi was clearly first to the left turn of Bus Stop and was perfectly entitled to turn in. Had Lewis done the right thing and backed out he surely would not have been close enough to make a move into the next corner.

If Hamilton had followed Kimi around the chicane, would he have been able to outbrake him at the next corner? No - he would have been too far away.

The only way he was able to be close enough to overtake Kimi's Ferrari was because he cut the corner. He didn't even attempt to take the chicane. I'm no Ferrari fan, but the stewards were right. It was clearly an unfair advantage. Grant, Buckie
