Joe Jackson made the claim in a US TV interview, but wouldn't give any further details.

Meanwhile, LA police chief William Bratton refused to rule out any possible cause, including homicide, and said the coroner's report into Jackson's death would be his guide.

Police are looking at the star's prescription drug history - he had a history of using prescription medications, especially painkillers - and trying to talk with his numerous former doctors, Mr Bratton said.

He said he was waiting for the coroner's report before ruling out any possibilities in the "comprehensive" investigation into the sudden death of the 50-year-old two weeks ago. The report will determine the cause of death and hinges on toxicology tests.

"Based on those we'll have an idea of what we're dealing with," Mr Bratton said. "Are we dealing with homicide? Are we dealing with an accidental overdose? What are we dealing with?"

Mr Bratton said detectives were gathering evidence, but the police chief deferred to the coroner to determine the cause of death.

Joe Jackson said he didn't know anything about drugs his son was involved in. "I don't even know the name of them," he said. "I do know that whatever he was taking was to make him rest because he had been working so hard."

And he told ABC he and his wife Katherine should have custody of Jackson's three children. "They'll grow up to be strong Jacksons," he said.

He said the late singer's daughter, Paris, was taking the death hard. He said she might have a future in the entertainment business along with the youngest son, nicknamed Blanket, who "can really dance".

Broadcaster CNN said it had seen confidential documents from 2004 that revealed the lengths the pop star would go to to get pharmaceuticals.

It also stated that Jackson was on 10 Xanax pills a night. The use of the drug, usually taken to treat panic disorders, will add to speculation that heavy medication may have led to the death of the King of Pop.

Los Angeles' police chief William Breton added to that speculation by stating that detectives investigating Jackson's death were looking at his prescription drug history and trying to talk to his numerous former doctors.

He told CNN that police were waiting for the coroner's report before ruling out any possibilities in their "comprehensive and far-reaching" probe.

Based on the actual cause of death, police "will have an idea of what it is we are dealing with", Mr Bratton said, adding: "Are we dealing with a homicide? Or are we dealing with accidental overdose?"

Results from toxicology tests ordered by the coroner are still weeks away.

On Thursday it emerged that friends and family of Michael Jackson had grown increasingly concerned over the pop star's use of heavy medication in the last years of his life.

Sources said Jackson's sister Janet - supported by other members of the Jackson family - tried to stage an intervention but was thwarted by her brother's security guards.

According to CNN, the Thriller singer allegedly ordered his aides not to allow them entry and even refused to take calls from his mother Katherine.

Dennis Zine said the city's taxpayers were "getting ripped off" because AEG, which is also the owner-operator of the Staples Centre, profited by charging the media up to £31,200 to use risers outside the venue.

But AEG Live's president Tim Leiweke said Mr Zine was out of line for asking the organisation to pay for policing because it had helped solicit donors for the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA victory parade last month.

AEG Live said it paid for Tuesday's memorial itself, along with the Jackson estate, but did not mention the cost of crowd control.

The parade and memorial both resulted in extraordinary costs to Los Angeles at a time when it is in debt for half a billion dollars and facing employee redundancies.

The cost of city services for the Lakers' parade was about £630,000. Donors covered about £531,000 of that sum. The Lakers and AEG spent another £630,000 to produce the parade and rally at the Memorial Coliseum.

In a tearful TV interview the glamour model-turned-author told how she lost the baby 10 weeks into her pregnancy but continued to run the London Marathon a week later because she did not want to let down sponsors.

Price, aka Jordan, said in the programme to be screened on ITV1 on Saturday she never dreamed she would ever divorce Andre and denied a fling with dressage trainer Andrew Gould.

Price said she lost the child while she and Andre filmed in the US.

"I was pregnant in America and the baby died," she told presenter Piers Morgan in her first major interview since her separation.

The miscarriage only became clear on her return during a routine scan.

Scotland's biggest music festival will see 85,000 people descend on Balado, Kinross-shire, to see some of the world's top bands perform this weekend.

James Morrison and Maximo Park were the first to play on the Main Stage.

Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand then entertained the crowd with hits including Take me Out and Kings of Leon.

Fans have travelled from as far as Australia and New Zealand to be at the festival. By Friday evening there were 55,000 settled in the campsite and tens of thousands of non-campers are expected on Saturday.

Many donned costumes for the Fancy Dress Friday theme Bees, Santa Clauses and Flintstones characters were spotted among the crowds.

Festival promoter Geoff Ellis said: "We're very excited just seeing people coming into the campsite with smiles on their faces.

"There is an air of anticipation and when you have been planning an event all year it is great to see it come to fruition."

Tayside Police said there is a greater police presence on-site this year, following last year's stabbing. Officers have been patrolling the campsite since the first people were allowed in.

Jayne's title was awarded by the show's judges and presenters, John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

Torode said: "Jayne is a natural cook. She has complete understanding of modern food. Jayne really pulled it out of the bag and is a deserving winner."

Hilton is accused by an investor's lawsuit of turning her back on the film, a box office bomb that made just 2.9 million dollars, at a crucial time when it was being released on DVD and in foreign markets.

The lawsuit, seeking 8.3 million dollars in damages, claims she violated her contract by rejecting or ignoring requests by producers to appear on talk shows and do radio and magazine interviews for the film.

Hilton insisted she was never told her contract required appearances after the October 2006 premiere of Pledge This! and said she spent more than two years promoting it beforehand, including two high-profile trips to the Cannes Film Festival in France.

The sound cut out while the band were in mid-performance at London's Wembley Stadium during Wonderwall, one of their biggest hits.

Gallagher shook his head as the crowd finished the song for them.

The problems came after thousands of fans asked for their money back following a technical glitch at the band's homecoming gig last month in Heaton Park, Manchester, due to a power fault.

Gallagher said: "Can I just categorically say no-one is getting their money back.

"Not you, not you.... not you with the glasses. Does anybody know any good jokes?"

Mentioning jokes about the late Michael Jackson, Gallagher said: "That's getting boring, although there are some belters. Last time this happened it cost us about half a million quid."

The band then broke into Supersonic with full sound and the crowd cheered. Gallagher later joked: "I've just seen a generator round the back with a Trotters' Independent Traders sticker on it.... I've got 50 quid, you can split it between you."

The gig saw the band come full circle. Oasis were the last British band to play the London venue before its revamp and this was the first time they had returned.

Earlier Gallagher had joked about bandmate Andy Bell who was wearing sunglasses, saying he "looks like he's just come from the Jackson memorial".
